To love or To be loved? 5 stages of love

Is it hard to choose?
Which is easier?

The problem

We’ve all been there. We’ve scrolled endlessly on social media to distract ourselves from life’s questions. You’ve been hurt before, so right now you’re more cautious about putting your heart out there. Everyone is preserving themselves from being hurt, so who’s loving?

Self-love

If you’re like me, you’ll choose self-love but even that comes with its share of expectations and suffering. You have to honor your boundaries even when it’s difficult to, you have to prioritize self-care with regular salon visits, expensive skin care cos that body gotta glow, of course, exercise, and then me-time where you give yourself permission to do nothing.

Self-preservation

We do all of that to preserve ourselves from being hurt. Desperately trying to control the narrative. “Chaos can be anywhere he wants to be, not in my life though”. We vow never to be vulnerable or at the risk of a heartbreak. But darling, that heart of yours is too big for only you.

Avoidance

These thoughts are getting deep. You go on Instagram again to scroll away and distract yourself, only this time you find your classmate just got engaged and another random person is showing off their partner. “God when!”

Acceptance

Hurt people, hurt people. There’s no strength in that circle, just weakness. I’m here to tell you to give them a chance. Cut them as many slacks as you give yourself, you just might be surprised. Love is never wasted. In giving love, we receive it. Even if it’s not reciprocated, they probably needed it more. “What if my heart breaks again?” But darling what if it soars?

To love or be loved, which is easier? Is it hard to choose? Let me know in the comments.

It is not an easy choice to make, but once you start the journey, it opens your eyes to a different perspective.

Very true! So much left to discover at the other end of ‘trying’.

To love is easier for me. When I love, I do so genuinely.

Tough one, but to love is easier. And yes you might get hurt, but true love is a risk worth taking!
